The Streak, the Trade, and Other Things

We did it, ladies and gentleman! We finally put together a 5 game winning streak for the first time since the 2015-16 season and we did it in style against some really good teams. Since the ugly game in Anaheim we have closed out a road trip with wins over the Ducks, the Kings, and the Blue Jackets. On our return home we conquered the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins and just last night dispatched the red hot Washington Capitals 6-3. During that streak we've scored 23 goals.

Filip Forsberg scored the 100th goal of his career, (He's only 23) Fiala finally got his first, (they'll come in buckets now.) and Kyle Turris has seamlessly fit in on the second line adding much-needed firepower to the offense. Oh, and by the way, we're doing all this without a pivotal member of our core defense in Ryan Ellis. Things are really looking up.

Tomorrow we'll take on the division rival Minnesota Wild at their place and look to keep the streak going before returning to Smashville Saturday where we'll face recent trade partner the Colorado Avalanche, fan-favorite Samuel Girard, and Vladislav Kamenev who just got called up to join the team.

It sucks having to lose two pieces like Girard and Kamenev but the return is well worth what we had to surrender. Turris is one of the more underrated players in the NHL. He's not flamboyant. He just goes about his business scoring goals and setting up his wingers. It sounds like he's a great fit for the team and in the locker room too which is always nice. Girard will blossom and sadden us all as we watch him develop into a top-flight D man but we get Turris for the next 6 years guaranteed and he's at his peak right now. Turris was exactly what this team needed and was missing.

What has to scare everyone in the division and perhaps the Western Conference is that we are not even at full strength right now. Ellis is still aways from being back. He's still on track to return around Christmas/first of the year so we'll have to suffer watching Emelin make mistake after mistake playing huge minutes until then but we have showed we're still nothing to play around with defensively. Subban covers for a lot of Emelin's flaws and when we can finally reunite him with Ekholm we're going to be really tough to play against.

Enjoy this season, folks. The Predators haven't been this good in our lifetimes and it's a fun time to be a fan. We will have our ups and downs as any team does but hopefully there will be more ups than downs and we can perhaps compete for that elusive division crown we've been seeking our entire existence. 5 points back from St. Louis currently so it's definitely doable.
